The Architeuthis (Giant Squid) is a deep sea creature that is the largest invertebrate in the world (Meaning it has no spine or vertebrate column). Though hard to find and photograph these giant sea creatures have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom and have eight arms and two tentacles. The Giant Squid reproduces by the male injecting spermatophores from his long terminal organ into the arms of the female squid. Eggs will then funnel from her large, terminally positioned ovary into long, convoluted proximal oviducts. After that, they advance to the oviducal glands, which initiate sperm activation and attraction. Passing from these glands the eggs would discharge from the distal oviduct, possibly in strings, directly into the female mantle cavity. Her mantle then relaxes and contracts. After this the mass of the egg will be ready to come out through her funnel and the reproduction cycle is complete.
